FOREIGN TRADE SINGLE WINDOW

GENERAL INFORMATION

In order to facilitate export procedures, the Ministry of Foreign Trade transferred the origin certification procedures to the Foreign Trade Agency of Costa Rica, within the framework of the treaties or agreements in which certificates of origin must have the approval of a competent certifying authority.

To fulfill this function, the Foreign Trade Agency of Costa Rica established the Unit of Origin, created by the Regulation for the Issuance of Certificates of Origin and the Verification of Origin of Exported Goods (Decree No. 36651-COMEX of June 1st, 2011, published in the Official Journal La Gaceta Nº 136 from July 14th, 2011).

The Origin Unit, attached to the Costa Rica´s Single Window for Foreign Trade, is in charge of verifying and certifying the origin of the goods, within the framework of foreign trade instruments that establish the figure of certification of origin by a competent authority.

This unit certifies the origin of the goods exported under the Generalized Systems of Preferences with Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. Likewise, it verifies and certifies the origin within the framework of the Partial Scope Agreement with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the trade agreements signed with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Republic of Colombia, the Republic of Peru, the People's Republic of China, the European Union and the United Kingdom.
